U Visa

The U-Visa gives certain immigration benefits to victims of human trafficking. You may qualify if:

  • You are the victim of a qualifying criminal activity

  • You have suffered substantial physical or mental abuse as result of having been a victim of criminal activity.

  • You have information about the criminal activity

  • You were helpful or are likely to be helpful to law enforcement in the investigation or prosecution of the crime.

  • The crime occurred in the U.S. or violated U.S. laws

Benefits

  • If you are under 21 you may apply for your spouse, children, and unmarried siblings under 18 to get a visa.

  • If you are over 21 you may apply for your spouse and children to get a visa.

  • You can work in the United States.

  • You have a valid U visa for 4 years.

  • You can apply for permanent residency after 3 years of being granted a U visa.
