Relieved of PC 290 Registration – Sacramento County Case 02F02226

Client was convicted in the early 2000’s of a felony sexual offense that resulted in lifetime registration pursuant to PC 290. Client had previously attempted (with other counsel) to reduce the case to a misdemeanor pursuant to PC 17(b), but was unsuccessful. Attorney Friedman was able to get Client’s felony reduced to a misdemeanor, and then successfully petitioned the court for a Certificate of Rehabilitation (COR). The granting of the COR eliminated Client’s duty to register as a sex offender pursuant to PC 290.

Attorney Friedman understands that in 17(b) and COR matters, presentation is very important. Attorney directed Client to obtain a psychological diagnostic performed, which showed a low risk of recidivism. Client was also able to show a history of employment, and had not suffered any subsequent arrests after his conviction.

Removal from lifetime registration was a huge relief to Client, who now has much greater opportunities for employment.
